GRANVILLE – For Rick Bauer, after working in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 30 years, everything changed in 2017 when he saw “the absolutely amazing improvements in my son’s dog after putting CBD on her food.”
His son, Jon, explained what happened. “Gonzo is a pit bull mix, going on 16 years now,” he related. “A few years ago, she could hardly walk due to hip problems. But after a few days of CBD, her tail was wagging, and she was walking around. That made me a believer. I was aware of the growing industry behind CBD and told my dad and sister, and away we went.”
What’s CBD? As their web site states, “CBD Health Collection’s all-natural CBD products contain pure, non-psychoactive cannabinoids and all of our products are extracted from organically grown, USA hemp. We pride ourselves that our CBD oil is highly potent and tested by independent third-party laboratories for purity and safety and all products are produced in a GMP and FDA-registered facility.”
“Our consistent and unique medicinal genetics,” Bauer added, “provide us with the highest quality and most effective products in the CBD industry. We always seek high-quality and full transparency. That’s why many physicians recommend our products to their patients. We estimate nearly half of our customers are from physician referral.”
Now 68, Rick Bauer grew up on the east side of Columbus. He graduated from Eastmoor High School in 1970, then received an undergraduate degree from Capital University in 1974, followed by postgraduate work at Ohio State in both education and international business.
“I always wanted to become a teacher or a doctor,” he said. Instead, he continued, “I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 30 years, from 1980 until 2019. I’ve had many roles ranging from field sales rep to general manager of the US for a UK-based firm.”
“I knew retirement for me was not stopping work,” he added, “but rather changing my work. I wanted to decrease my travel, not manage a large staff and take look at more natural approaches to good health.
“CBD checked all of those boxes, and I love the transition.”
Bauer actually founded the company under a different name in 2017, then the current company was officially launched in May of 2020.
“While many thought it was foolish to launch a company in the middle of a pandemic,” he said, “we had seen how CBD helped many people deal with anxiety during the lockdown and realized that if we launched in May, we could help a lot of folks.”
Working with him are wife Rosemarie, son Jon, and daughter Ashley Marienau.
“I personally experienced tremendous benefits with CBD,” noted Ashley, now the company’s director of sales and business development. “I was a 3-time NCAA champion and female athlete of the year at Ohio State in 2015. I had every intention of training full-time with the national rowing team after college but suffered a career ending injury when I was finishing up my rowing career at OSU. CBD has really helped me keep control of my aches and pains, so I was able to get back into working out again. So it was a natural fit when my dad told me about his idea for a CBD company.”
“Throughout my career,” her dad concluded, “my work was ‘behind the scenes.’ I never met the actual patients who were benefiting from my work. Now I work with my kids and wife every day, and I get to meet and interact with the people who we help. It’s truly gratifying.”
